Thanks to you fellow cats who weighed in on the question of whether the use of baking soda as an odor-controller in our litter boxes was good or bad. Steve checked with our vet, who said it was perfectly fine to mix in a little baking soda with my litter. Because this proved his female to be incorrect, Steve was naturally gloating. Not to be outdone, the female went on the Internet and found a Pet Place article stating that the ingestion of large amounts of baking soda could be bad for kitties. Not that I planned on eating large amounts of baking soda any time soon, but because females generally get their way with males (as is certainly the case in my household), there will be no more baking soda in my litter box. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer, but I guess you'll just have to rely on your human (and your vet) to make the right decision.

Mom tried baking soda in our litterbox but it was more trouble than it was worth, she says. Now she just tries to remember to scoop before it reeks!
I think the real, true answer is "Mom always knows best!"

i've actally never heard it was bad, but i use Feline Pine so it is really good at naturally controlling any *ahem* odors that occur...
When da litterbox gets cleaned around here, a little soda made into a paste is great for dose stubborn ...um...stains.

Mom has never tried baking soda in our litter boxes, but she uses litter that's good about controlling *ahem* odors. And my sister and brothers and I all like the litter fine, so all is well! *smile*

I was thinking about trying mixing some baking soda with the litter, but we use litter made from wheat (lower dust for Henry's asthma), so I was afraid we'd end up with really BAD cookies. heh, heh...

ew ew ew, who woulds eat kitty litters? Let alones baking soda stuffs in it? Mommy Beans has used it for over 30 years and has nots had a problem. Then of course perhaps none of her kittys likes the taste of baking sodas?

Hello it's my first time here.
Our mummy uses a wood based litter, which is good for keeping odours away. Except for real emergencies we don't have any bad smells. Well, we're ladies, after all!

Baking Soda from Arm & Hammer is definitely BAD because the company does animal testing. And your humans do not want to support that, we are sure!!!
